Our friend and producer partner Eduardo Menendez is a 4th generation coffee producer in Santa Ana, El Salvador. Finca Alicia sits at 1110 masl. Getting there is rough as the roads are mostly none: just a lot of rocks. He makes great use of his 1974 Toyota Land Cruiser, however which by the way is in excellent shape!
This particular coffee is our first Pacamara (aka Paca) varietal. It has sweet, delicate notes of stone fruit, tangerine, cocoa and caramel. Pacas are a hybrid developed in the late 1950s in El Salvador. It is a cross between Pacas variety (an El Salvadoran mutation of Bourbon) with Maragogype and it gets its name from the first 4 letters of each of its parents. It also shares traits from both parents.
The Pacas trees are shorter in size, have tighter internodes, and develop a compact foliage which help it to endure tough climate conditions: winds, sunlight, and water scarcity. It is highly resistant to diseases, adapts to many growing conditions, and provides high production yields. Enjoy this coffee!
